Biology of Inonotus andersonii (Eli. et Everh.) Černý is described and the first report is given on the characteristics of imperfect carpophores which have not been detected anywhere before. Perfect carpophores are formed only once, at the time when the infested tree is withering away, due to the extensive rotting of wood in the whole stem and the thick branches.
