The crustacean Heterocypris incongruens Sars (Ostracoda) is identified as the intermediary host of the fungus Coelomomyces chironomi Rašín (Blastocladiales) in Czechoslovakia. The development of the secondary thalli and formation of the zygotes in the host are described and the impact of this complicated way of transmission on the strategy of application of C. chironomi and others in biological vector control are discussed. A description of the localities with the fungus outbreak in the field is presented.
