The occurrence of microcarpophoric fruitbodies on thickened stipes of Flammulina velutipes (Curt. ex Fr.) Sing. is described. These neoformations on the host organism are considered by the authors to be a result of a virotic disease. This is documented by the presence of rod-shaped and spherical particles in the tissue of the fruitbodies. In the second part of the paper, several viral diseases of higher fungi and the possibility of classifying viruses as organismoids are discussed.
