Treatment of Schizophyllum commune Fr. basidiospores with ethyl methanesulfonate induced a slow-growing mutant with aberrant mycelial morphology. Microscopy revealed numerous short, thick-walled, chlamydospore-like structures. Genetic analysis indicated two nuclear genes involved (chl-1, chl-2), which show independent assortment. The locus chl-1 is probably weakly linked to the A incompatibility factor.
