Cephalotheca sulfurea Fuckel was discovered on bare, hard wood (probably spruce) in an old chicken coop in Prague-Smíchov by Dr. Albert Pilát on October 16, 1966. The cleistothecia were black, covered with a sulfur-yellow felt except at the top. The wall opens by cracking, and the description includes details of the structure, asci, and spores. This is a rare ascomycete newly recorded from Czechoslovakia.
