On 24 November, 1968, Professor A. S. Bondarcev, D.Sc., the oldest Soviet mycologist, passed away in Leningrad aged 91 (born in Kursk 5 August, 1877). His long and fruitful life was completely filled until the end by his plant pathological and mycological activities, testimony of which are his recently published papers on polypores, especially from the Soviet Far East. His “magnum opus” is undoubtedly his 1953 monograph on polyporaceous fungi of the USSR and the Caucasus.
