Abstract

The author examined the distribution of Armillaria mellea (Vahl ex Fr.) Kumm. and red rot in forest communities in southwestern Moravia. The occurrence of A. mellea is closely related to the form of humification, while red rot is associated with gley-like soil profiles. In the Henčov forestry enterprise near Jihlava, losses due to wood decay were estimated. Approximately 45% of decay cases are caused by human damage during logging and transport.
