The author received a single fruitbody of a fungus remarkably resembling Calocybe gambosa (Fr.) Sing. in smell, shape, size, and color. It was collected by Juraj Kaščák on October 10, 1965, in the Strážovská Mountains (Western Slovakia) at an elevation of about 600–700 m. A week earlier, the same collector had observed several fruitbodies in a nearby location. This fungus, named Leucopaxillus pseudogambosus Pilát, differs from Calocybe gambosa primarily by its autumn occurrence and especially by its warted, clearly amyloid spores. It is closely related to the polymorphic species Leucopaxillus cerealis (Lasch) Sing. = L. albissimus (Pers.) Sing., and also to Leucopaxillus amarus (Alb. et Schw.) Kühner, but differs in color.
