Armillaria mellea (Vahl ex Fr.) Kumm., though a common edible fungus, is a serious pathogen of trees and shrubs, attacking forest and orchard species, crops, and ornamentals. Its global distribution and wide host range make it an important subject for mycological and ecological study. The authors call for increased attention to its occurrence and damage in Czechoslovakia and invite collaboration for a mapping project.
