  abstract   Artificial infection of Trisetum flavescens with chlamydospores of Ustilago avenae (Pers.) Jens. resulted in infection. Back infection of oats from Trisetum showed comparable success as from oats themselves. Spores from both hosts were morphologically identical and retained infectivity. Electron microscopy confirmed spore ornamentation. This demonstrates Trisetum flavescens as a possible alternative host.
