  abstract   The taxonomic position of Peniophora sanguinea (Fr.) Höhn. et Litsch. is reviewed, and it is transferred to the genus Phanerochaete P. Karst. as Phanerochaete sanguinea (Fr.) Pouz. comb. nov. Based on basidia type, hyphal structure, and spore morphology, it is shown that this species belongs to Phanerochaete rather than to Peniophora.
