  abstract   A new species of the saprophytic resupinate Basidiomycete Thanatephorus ovalisporus Čížek et Pouzar, collected in Central Slovakia on rather rotten prostrate spruce (Picea abies) trunks, branches and cones, is described, differing from the closely allied species Thanatephorus sterigmaticus (Bourd.) Talbot by presence of hyphal strands, broader basidia, and especially by ovoide-ellipsoid spores.
