  abstract   The generic name Nummularia L.—R. et C. Tul. 1863 being a later homonym of Nummularia Hill 1756 should be replaced by the name Biscogniauxia O. Kuntze. The genus should be emended to include not only the majority of species in the sense of Miller (1961) but also species of the Hypoxylon nummularium (Bull. ex St.-Amans) Fr. group. A new species Biscogniauxia simplicior Pouz. spec. nov. is described which differs from B. repanda (Fr. ex J. C. Schmidt) O. Kuntze by simple (unilateral) germ slits of ascospores — the last species having double (bilateral) slits.
