  abstract   The first Spanish records of Melanoleuca galbuserae are published from two localities in the Pyrenees; a third locality published here is situated in the adjacent French part of these mountains. The identity of this species is confirmed morphologically and with phylogenetic methods. Its distribution and ecology are discussed. Melanoleuca galbuserae is currently known from France, Italy and Spain and represents a montane to alpine fungus widely distributed in the montane-alpine zone of Mediterranean countries. An analysis of DNA sequence databases indicates occurrence in montane-alpine areas of Asia and also North America. A study of macro- and micromorphological features of these collections also provides new information about the variability of this species.
