  abstract   A new species, Marasmius violaceoides (Basidiomycetes, Tricholomataceae), is described for a taxon known in the modern literature as Marasmius violaceus Henn. sensu Singer. Revision of the type specimen of Marasmius violaceus showed that this taxon belongs to the genus Gymnopus.
