  abstract   The authors deal with the systematics, ecology and geographical distribution of two rare polypores in Czechoslovakia, Spongipellis litschaueri Lohwag and Tyromyces kmetii (Bres.) Bond. et Sing. They discuss the relationship of the first species to the North American Spongipellis unicolor (Schw.) Murrill and the European Polyporus schulzeri Fr., attempt a redefinition of the genus Spongipellis Pat., give those features which distinguish it from related genera and merge the genus Irpiciporus Murrill with the genus Spongipellis Pat. Two new combinations are proposed.
