  abstract   The authors revise material from southern Bohemia determined by Velenovský as Polyporus acanthoides Bull. and later by Pilát as Phaeolus croceus. They identify the specimen as Albatrellus confluens (Alb. et Schw. ex Fr.) Kotl. et Pouz. Based on anatomical and chemical characteristics, the true Polyporus croceus belongs in the genus Hapalopilus P. Karst., which is described in detail.
