  abstract   Phellinus pilatii Černý sp. nov. is a fungus of the northern temperate zone, recorded so far in several localities in southern Czechoslovakia and in Hungary. It differs from its closest relative, Phellinus everhartii, by the color and size of its basidiospores, the presence of long tramal setae in the tube walls, the formation of imperfect fruitbodies, and by the very different host wood species.
