  abstract   The following articles should contribute to the knowledge about the representatives of the genus Absidia van Tiegh. in Czechoslovakia and give further precision to some taxonomic problems. The first contribution gives a brief history of the genus, survey of the used material and the available information about species of the genus Absidia from our country, characteristics of the genus, and finally the key for determination of species found in Czechoslovakia.

  abstract   A new species of the genus Absidia, A. fassatiae, is described based on a culture isolated from a soil sample in Bohemia by O. Fassatiová. The species is characterized by cylindrical sporangiospores and differs from A. heterospora and other similar species in morphological and growth characteristics.
