MEJSTŘÍK V., KELLEY A.P. (1979): Mycorrhizae in Sequoia gigantea Lindl. et Gard. and Sequoia sempervirens Endl. Česká Mykologie 33(1): 51-54 (published: 1979)
abstract
Endophytic mycorrhizae of vesicular-arbuscular type were described in the fine roots of Sequoia gigantea and Sequoia sempervirens. Mycorrhizal infection was stronger in thick brown roots, while thin white roots were weakly infected. Arbuscules and vesicles were present in the parenchyma cells. Hyphae measured 3.45–8.95 μm in diameter. Roots were devoid of root hairs. The study emphasizes the importance of mycorrhizae in the survival of these conifers in natural environments.
