abstract
During a Czechoslovak expedition to the Makalu region (East Nepal, 1973), 43 soil samples were examined and 37 species of microscopic fungi from 14 genera were isolated. Two genera and 15 species are new records for the Himalayas.

abstract
A new dermatophyte, Arthroderma melis sp. nov., was isolated from badger burrows. It forms cleistothecia with distinctive peridial hyphae and pink colonies with micro- and macroconidia of Trichophyton type. It is non-pathogenic for laboratory animals and grows only below 37°C.
