[Phytophthora cambivora, ink disease, Castanea sativa, sweet chestnut, Czech Republic] Czech Mycology 60(2): 265-274 (published: 27th February, 2009)
abstract
Sweet chestnut (Castanea sativa) is a non-autochthonous but commonly planted ornamental tree in the Czech Republic. However, this species is sensitive to some Phytophthora infections causing socalled ink disease. The disease usually occurs in warmer regions in Europe. In the Czech Republic it had not been detected until the nineties of the 20th century. In 1997 extensive decline of a sweet chestnut ornamental orchard with typical symptoms of ink disease was found at one locality in eastern Bohemia. Later the causal organism of this disease Phytophthora cambivora (Petri) Buisman was isolated from necrotised tissues of trunks of several declining chestnut trees. This is the first find of the pathogen causing ink disease of chestnut in the Czech Republic.
ČERNÝ K., GREGOROVÁ B., HOLUB V., STRNADOVÁ V. (2003): First finds of "alder-Phytophthora" in the Czech Republic. [Phytophthora, Alnus glutinosa, alder decline] Czech Mycology 55(3-4): 291-296 (published: 22nd December, 2003)
abstract
The new hybride “alder-Phytophthora” (P. cambivora X P. cf. fragariae) has originated in western Europe and its area has an expanding tendency. This pathogenic fungus was isolated during studies of declining alders in the river basin of the Ohře river at Chodovský potok brook near Karlovy Vary, western Bohemia. The fungus was found in a substrate with damaged roots and in conductive tissues of trunks of declining trees of Alnus glutinosa.
