ANTONÍN V., JANČOVIČOVÁ S., BALLESTER L., CABOŇ M., ĎURIŠKA O., TOMŠOVSKÝ M. (2024): First records of Melanoleuca galbuserae (Melanoleucaceae, Basidiomycota) from Spain and notes on its ecology. [Agaricales, montane-alpine distribution, Pyrenees, variability, phylogeny.] Czech Mycology 76(2): 125-138 (published: 22nd October, 2024)
abstract
The first Spanish records of Melanoleuca galbuserae are published from two localities in the Pyrenees; a third locality published here is situated in the adjacent French part of these mountains. The identity of this species is confirmed morphologically and with phylogenetic methods. Its distribution and ecology are discussed. Melanoleuca galbuserae is currently known from France, Italy and Spain and represents a montane to alpine fungus widely distributed in the montane-alpine zone of Mediterranean countries. An analysis of DNA sequence databases indicates occurrence in montane-alpine areas of Asia and also North America. A study of macro- and micromorphological features of these collections also provides new information about the variability of this species.

abstract
Melanoleuca strictipes (P. Karst.) Métrod, a species characterised by whitish colours and macrocystidia in the hymenium, has for years been identified as several different species. Based on morphological studies of 61 specimens from eight countries and a phylogenetic analysis of ITS sequences, including type material of M. subalpina and M. substrictipes var. sarcophyllum, we confirm conspecificity of these specimens and their identity as M. strictipes. The lectotype of this species is designated here. The morphological and ecological characteristics of this species are presented.

ANTONÍN V., KRAMOLIŠ J., TOMŠOVSKÝ M. (2012): Two collections of albinotic forms of Tubaria (Basidiomycota, Agaricales, Inocybaceae). [Tubaria hiemalis, Tubaria romagnesiana, Tubaria furfuracea, albinotic forms, taxonomy, ITS] Czech Mycology 64(2): 197-208 (published: 7th December, 2012)
abstract
The record of an albinotic Tubaria from the Czech Republic was studied and compared with a macroscopically similar collection from Norway. However, the two specimens represent different taxa due to both morphological characters and DNA sequences. The main microscopic characters usually used for species identification of the Tubaria furfuracea complex (including T. furfuracea, T. hiemalis, and T. romagnesiana) are discussed on the base of studied collections from the BRNM herbarium. According to our studies, the main characters (size of basidiospores, shape and size of cheilocystidia, width of the hymenophoral trama hyphae) usually used for identification of these three species are not generally applicable. Further detailed anatomic-morphological and molecular studies are desirable to solve the problem of species limits in the Tubaria furfuracea complex.

To date, it is known from two localities in Benin. The characters in which it differs from similar taxa are also discussed.
ANTONÍN V., BERAN M., BOROVIČKA J., DVOŘÁK D., HOLEC J. (2011): Clitocybula familia (Fungi, Agaricales) - taxonomy, distribution, ecology and first records in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. [var. familia, var. compressa, DNA studies, Europe, North America, old-growth forests, bioindication] Czech Mycology 63(1): 1-11 (published: 10th August, 2011)
abstract
The first records of Clitocybula familia from the Czech and Slovak Republics were studied and compared with the type specimen of C. familia var. compressa and several North-American collections of var. familia using macro– and microscopic characters as well as molecular data (LSU rDNA).All the collections were identical. Therefore, there is no need to recognise var. familia and var.compressa, as they represent the same taxon. Detailed macro– and microscopic descriptions are given. In Europe, the species grows on strongly decayed fallen trunks of Abies alba and Picea abies. All four Central-European localities represent valuable old-growth forests. Therefore, this species may be a bioindicator of such environments.

ANTONÍN V., BERAN M., DVOŘÁK D., HOLEC J. (2009): First records of Callistosporium pinicola in the Czech Republic and new findings on its ecology. [Callistosporium pinicola, taxonomy, distribution, bioindication, Ukraine] Czech Mycology 61(1): 1-12 (published: 29th September, 2009)
abstract
Callistosporium pinicola has been collected at ten localities in the Czech Republic. They represent the first records in this country. Three finds from Ukraine are published as well. Detailed macro– and microscopic descriptions of the species are provided. C. pinicola grows on strongly decayed fallen trunks of Abies alba and Picea abies, however, it has once also been found on a frondose tree. Its preference for old-growth forests with spruce and fir in the Czech Republic is discussed, including its possible usage as a local bioindicator of such forests. It is very interesting that all collections of C. pinicola in the Czech Republic are recent (collected in the period 2004–2008). It suggests that the species is spreading for unknown reasons. In Europe, C. pinicola usually occurs in localities fulfilling two conditions: a humid climate and strongly decayed wood.

These included measuring of extracellular ligninolytic enzymes and monitoring of protein and glucose concentration in media. Its placement in the genus Gerronema in the recent sense is proven using molecular methods.

(2006): Armillaria socialis - morphological-anatomical and ecological characteristics, pathology, distribution in the Czech Republic and Europe and remarks on its genetic variation. [Armillaria, Desarmillaria, description, distribution, pathology, ecology, ITS sequences, genetic variation] Czech Mycology 58(3-4): 209-224 (published: 29th December, 2006)
abstract
Armillaria socialis belongs to subgen. Desarmillaria. Its correct specific name (in comparison with the frequently used name A. tabescens) is discussed, and its detailed macro– and microscopic description and distribution in the Czech Republic and Europe are given. It is a thermophilic species occurring in Europe, USA, Japan and China. The northern distributional limit in Europe runs through Central Europe. In the Czech Republic, A. socialis occurs in thermophilic oak stands and also in alluvial forests. It was found on oaks, field maple and ash. A molecular study using sequence data from ribosomal DNA (ITS region) revealed a relatively high intraspecific genetic variation among sequences of A. socialis from various localities of the Czech Republic and France. The results resemble those published earlier from the USA.

abstract
Gymnopilus igniculus Deneyer, P.-A. Moreau et Wuilbaut (Agaricales, Cortinariaceae), a violet-coloured species described in 2002 from Belgium, was found in the city of Ostrava, part Radvanice, Czech Republic. The fruitbodies grew on decaying wood of Fraxinus in a unique habitat - a burning coal mine dump, the surface of which reached about 45'C. The most important characters of the fruitbodies are the purplish to vinaceous- or reddish-brown colour of the pileus covering which is tomentose-fibrillose when young and fibrillose-squamulose to distinctly scaly at maturity, they ellow pileus ground, the absence of any ring, the whitish membranaceous to fibrillose veil, the stipe distinctly longitudinally purplish brown fibrillose on the dirty white or slightly violaceous ground, the context yellowish with reddish-violaceous tinge and fungoid smell, there latively large spores [8.0-9.5(-ll) X 6.0-6.8(-7.2) fim] with rough verrucose to verrucose-rugulose ornamentation, the variable shape of cheilocystidia and the absence of pleurocystidia. A detailed description of macro- and microcharacters, colour photographs of fresh fruitbodies and line drawings are provided. Some characters deviating from the Belgian collections are discussed and remarks on other European finds of Gymnopilus with violet colours are added.
