VIZÁROVÁ G., BACIGÁLOVÁ K., TAMÁS L. (2003): Physiological reactions of Aspergillus niger isolates from different heavy metal polluted sites in Slovakia. [Aspergillus niger, heavy metals, cytoplasmic proteins, morphology, ecology] Czech Mycology 54(3-4): 261-272 (published: 23rd May, 2003)
abstract
The paper is focused on the dominant Aspergillus niger Tiegh. strain isolated from three different locations in Slovakia polluted by heavy metals. The stress factors (ions of Hg2+ and Cu2+) of some physiological reactions of fungus isolates in “in vitro” conditions (mycelium growth, biomass formation, cytoplasmic protein content in mycelium, as well as morphology and development of conidiophores) were observed. To compare physiological reactions of these different Aspergillus niger strains during “in vitro” cultivation showed, that Aspergillus niger strains isolated from locations with heavy metals (Krompachy and Rudňany) showed reactions which tolerated lowerconcentrations of Hg2+ and Cu2+ ions in medium (mycelium growth), they contained cytoplasmic proteins with a higher molecular weight (29, 34 and 40 kD), and showed irregular growth and ripening of spores in the heads of conidiophores. After one year of “in vitro” cultivation, all the Aspergillus niger isolates ( from polluted and non-polluted sites in Slovakia), showed the same physiological reactions to Hg2+ and Cu2+ ions. All fungus cultures showed sensitivity to ion concentration with an inhibitory effect on growth and development.
BACIGÁLOVÁ K. (1997): Species of Taphrina on Betula in Slovakia. [Taphrina Fr., Betula L., Slovakia, biology, ecology, distribution] Czech Mycology 50(2): 107-118 (published: 16th December, 1997)
abstract
New data on the occurrence of Taphrina betulae (Fuckel) Johanson and Taphrina betulina Rostr. on Betula pendula Roth, Betula pubescens Ehrh. and B. pubescens Ehrh. subsp. carpatica (Kit. ex Willd.) Aschers, et Graebn., till now unsufficiently known from the territory of Slovakia are presented. Brief characteristics on biology, ecology and distribution of the fungi as well as their host plants are given together with the ecological characteristics of their localities.

abstract
Taphrina viridis Maire was found for the first time in the Západné Tatry Mts. (Karpaty Mts.) on Duschekia alnobetula (Ehrh.) Pouzar, (syn. Ainus viridis (Chaix) DC.). The author presents some new biological data on them entioned fungus and ecological characteristics of its habitat.

abstract
The paper deals with the species Taphrina populina Fr. on Populus nigra L. as well as Taphrina johansonii Sadeb, on Populus tremula L. tillnow unsufficiently known from the Slovakian territory. The author presents some new data on biology, ecology and distribution of the fungi and their host plants. Ecological characteristics of new localities are described.

abstract
New data are presented on the occurrence of Taphrina Fr. [T. alni (Berk, et Br.) Gjaerum, Tepiphylla (Sadeb.) Sacc., T. tosquinetii (Westend.) Magn. and T. sadebeckii Johans.) on Alnus Mill. Brief characteristics as to biology, ecology and distribution of the mentioned fungi as well as their host plants are given together with the ecological characteristics of the new localities.
