Investigations of yeasts isolated from 126 water samples show the occurrence o f 16 different species. Two small fish-ponds were sampled twice, in summer and autumn, respectively. The most prevalent species were Aureobasidium pullulans, Sporobolomyces roseus, Hansenula anomala, Hyphopichia burtonii, Leucosporidium scottii, Bullera alba and Candida sp., mainly Candida krusei. The comparison is noted between the yeast population o f autumn and summer samples. The total yeast count was 2.5 times higher in autumn than in summer. Isolated yeast strains are characterized by some physiological features.
